First of all THANK YOU SO MUCH to all the amazing yogi & photographers participating! The October Yoga Instagram Challenge has completely surpassed anything I’ve ever imagined- so many people participating, tons of incredible photos each day filled with gorgeous yogi & stunning photography.
We are doing our absolute best to keep up with everything, liking as many photos as we can each day, and commenting when have a few extra minutes. Please know there are hundreds of people participating & we’re trying to spread as much love as we possibly can. I’m also occasionally posting/liking from my personal account @ClicktheGoodNews depending on what device I’m on when I have a few extra minutes, so you may see my commenting from that account.
Just to clarify some naming issues- feel free to use the tag @GrowSoulBeautiful for instragram as well as #yogaADay. If you are feeding straight into twitter, our handle there is @GrowSoulBeauty so use that tag to connect with us on twitter
Second, there are no strict rules to the challenge- it’s intended to be inspirational and encouraging. They don’t necessarily need to be on instagram- feel free to use twitter or even Facebook to participate. The only goal is to do at least 1 yoga pose a day & to take a photo of yourself. If you get behind or are just now joining us- no big deal! Catch up if you are feeling ambitious, start right along with us, or just do a few of your favorite poses.
If you missed our Yoga Self-portraits tips, be sure to check them out for ideas & tricks!
Towards the end of the month, we’re getting into some more challenging poses, so be gentle & patient with yourself! Feel free to use props or modifications to make the pose comfortable and accessible to you, wherever you are at on your yoga journey. The challenge isn’t about mastering every pose or achieving perfect form, it’s about YOU & YOUR BODY, so be gracious and kind as you explore some of the more difficult asanas.
Explore & Connect
If you haven’t checked out the #yogaAday hashtag, you really should! There are so many creative, inspiring, awesome photos posted each day. We’re having a really hard time picking our favorite- there are so many incredible photographers & artists out there.
Take a few minutes to see what other yogi are doing & how they are getting creative with their shots, techniques, poses, and post-processing. Show them so love, like their photo, or even leave them a little word of encouragement in a comment.
Wrap-up & Contest
We’ve been posting our daily favorite on our Instagram account (you can see all the amazing photos so far), and we’ll have a round-up post in November sharing all these amazing photos in one place.
But I’m excited to announce another contest for everybody! At the end of the month, we’ll have a special post & ask everybody to post their favorite pose of themselves & share what they’ve learned throughout the month. We’ll select 1 persona at random to be a winner, so you don’t need to worry about having the perfect posture, most amazing background, or greatest photo. We’re giving away a Lululemon Bag & an iTunes gift card. We’ll give you all the details in that post, but feel free to leave us a comment here & share your favorite photo so far.
We’re excited to announce that we will repeat the Yoga Instagram Challenge in November . We’ll use most of the same poses, but will probably be making a few tweaks and would love to hear your feedback. If you have any ideas or suggestions, we’d love to hear from you on how you think we can improve the yoga photo challenge. Drop us an email firstname.lastname@example.org & give us your ideas. We’ll take a break in December & do a mini-holiday challenge that’s going to be a little bit different & fun to get ready for the holidays.
In 2013, we’ll be launching Year of Yoga, 26 poses to take us through the year, with tips for each pose, variations & modifications for each pose, and an opportunity for you to get connected with your head+heart in each pose. We’ll share what our yogis think about their connection to each pose & then invite readers to submit their photos & thoughts to be featured on the blog.
