Exactly one year ago, I started Karen Walrond’s Pathfinder course & had no idea how life-changing it would be for me. I started journaling, asked my creative side to come out of hiding, hit the pause button a moment in my life to do a little evaluating on just where I was at 31. Through brightly colored pens and barely legible handwriting, I wrote and wrote- diving deeper into finding myself and growing my inner beauty. The culmination of the course was my very first vision board- so powerful and nerve wracking that laid in bed crying that night- raw from digging so deep inside, proud that I was really starting to figure out what I wanted in this life, scared that so many of those things may be wildly crazy dreams far outside the realm of possibility.
The rest of my year was a rough one, with lots of personal struggles & challenges as I continued to seek a new course for myself and dig even deeper into my soul with more e-courses and workshops. Early one morning in January, as I pressed my face into my sweaty yoga mat, a wild and crazy idea came to me like fireworks exploding inside my head. Yoga and photography, my two loves, were just the perfect partners to build a bridge to self.
The ideas came fast and furious. Pages and pages of notes, meeting after meeting with friends and partners, dozens of spreadsheets and documents, hundreds of emails over the next several months as the idea for Grow Soul Beautiful began to take shape. For the first three decades of my life, I checked off every box in “SHOULD” category and felt like a failure if I wasn’t best at everything. I followed all the health & fitness blog, read about nutritious recipes, kept an eye on the latest fad diets I was too scared to try for fear of failure. Heck, I even ran 9 full marathons in just over a year, clearly out to prove something to somebody. Suddenly I found myself in a new online world- one filled with artists, authors, creatives, coaches, light-workers, soul-healers- what I call Woo People.
But it was only when I started down this path of looking at myself, my deepest desires, my doubts & fears, my passions & pleasures that it dawned on me. No amount of outside, exterior, physical changes would bring me a deep peace or happiness- it was all in INSIDE job. Practicing yoga was one of the first places where I encountered the intersection of mind+body health as I learned to listen to my body, hear my heart whispers, quiet my mind through meditation. There was no best or winner or score or finish time in yoga, only practice for the sake of self-awareness.
It’s been my dream for the last 9 months to launch a website that will be a bridge that connects the world of people blogging about the outside, exterior health and well-being of the body to those doing the inside work. Lead those interested in dieting to the realization your soul needs nourishing even more than the body. Share the message that no matter how fast your PR time, you can’t run from yourself and you better start liking WHO you really are right where you are in this moment. Encourage those who eating clean to be more intentional and deliberate about what goes into their mind and soul beyond not just what goes into the mouth. Declare to those starting a new workout routine that getting those precious creative juices flowing is just as satisfying as hitting the weights.
The pages will be filled with an inspiring mixture of yoga, photography, and soul nourishment. You will be introduced to some of my favorites soul-workers who are offering so many ways to show yourself a little love from e-courses and workshops to coaching and books. Every single post will be a little encouraging nudge to do something for yourself, trust yourself, find yourself, believe in yourself, express yourself, and simply BE YOURSELF.
We have some amazing things lined up for Grow Soul Beautiful, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. As a small token of my appreciation, I’d like to giveaway $50 iTunes gift card so that you soul can sing as loud as mine is right now. So much makes my heart sing, and the better I know myself, the more I’m able to identify those things! Truly helping someone who needed it most, even if done anonymously. Getting into graduate school. Surviving yesterday’s challenging FDOY Houston class in 97 degrees!
Really knowing when I’ve truly pushed myself and seeing just how much farther I’ve done. Celebrating the successes of others.
LIFE IS GOOD!
