When I turned 25 ½ I started my blog, Creative Soul in Motion. I thought it would be a great way to keep myself accountable, to help motivate me so I could become the person that I had always wanted to be at 25 years old. I called it the Quarter Life Reconstruction Project and hoped to make some big changes in my life.
At this time in my life I was horribly unhappy, and felt confused, lost, and powerless. I wasn’t sure exactly what my new life would look like but I knew I wanted to write more often, feel strong and peaceful, figure out what really mattered to me, and where I belonged. I knew I wanted something more. Something different.
I had the best intentions; yet, not much changed over the next six months.
So on my 26th birthday I woke up disappointed. How could I be 26 already? My life was nothing what I had hoped it would be… Six months had gone by since I started my Reconstruction project but I was still unhappy. I felt stuck.
Laying in bed it dawned on me that I was standing in my own way.
By holding onto the past
Refusing to forgive
Playing the victim card
Focusing on the negative
Being terrified of change
I was holding myself back
Creating roadblocks
Putting up barriers
There wasn’t any space
So I couldn’t move on, move forward
I needed to let go.
By letting go I could find
Space
Clarity
Energy
Opportunity
Hope
The night of my 26th birthday I wrote down all of the roadblocks in my way on slips of paper and burned each one in my friend’s fire-place. I was literally letting go of the burdens holding me back. Honestly, once the last slip turned to ashes it was like someone flipped a switch inside me. I literally felt lighter. Happier. It was a small act but had a huge impact on my heart and my mindset.
My first e-book, How to Lighten Your Load and Open Your Heart, shares my experience letting go and is offered on my site for free, as a gift to you.
Once you’ve shrugged off the pounds of sadness that have hardened your heart and pushed down on your shoulders you’ll find new energy and a new lightness within your soul. You’ll realize that anything is possible.
